I am a father, engineer, and public servant who has built my life in St. Louis Park.

I was born in Mogadishu and immigrated to the United States in 2014 because I continue to believe in the opportunity, promise, and strength of American institutions.

As the first Somali American elected to the St. Louis Park School Board and serving as its Vice Chair, I have been lucky enough to build lasting relationships and become a trusted voice for students, families, and residents across District 3.

Proven Results on the School Board

When I was on the board, I showed what responsive, realistic leadership can accomplish. Since 2022, I delivered for students and families:

● Steered the district through a crisis when two board members and the superintendent departed unexpectedly, leading key appointments and a successful superintendent search
● Increased accountability and enrollment by demanding excellence and equity
● Added student voices to the board by creating student representative positions
● Secured more funding by partnering with state legislators on budget increases and policy reforms
● Championed multilingual learners and families navigating the system in multiple languages
● Worked on school transportation policy and Equitable School Buildings.

I also earned the Minnesota School Boards Association Leadership Development Award and recognition as a St. Louis Park Human Rights Award finalist.

Service Beyond the School District

I am committed to our community beyond the classroom and school board. I previously served on the St. Louis Park Police Advisory Commission, the 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, and community partnership initiatives focused on youth and families.
