A Community Leader and Problem Solver for Hennepin County District 3
Abdihakim Arabow Ibrahim is a father, engineer, and public servant who has built his life
in St. Louis Park.

Born in Mogadishu, he immigrated to the United States in 2014 with a belief in
opportunity and the strength of public institutions. That journey influences how he leads
today: with humility, determination, and a commitment to ensuring every family can
thrive.

As the first Somali American elected to the St. Louis Park School Board, and serve as its
Vice Chair, Abdihakim has become a trusted voice for students, families, and residents
across District 3.

Proven Results on the School Board

In his time on the board, Abdihakim has shown what responsive and principled leadership can accomplish. Since 2022, he has delivered for students and families:

● Steered the district through crisis when two board members and the superintendent departed unexpectedly, leading key appointments and a successful superintendent search
● Increased accountability and enrollment by focusing on equity and excellence
● Added student voices to the board by creating student representative positions
● Secured more funding by partnering with state legislators on budget increases and policy reforms
● Championed multilingual learners and families navigating the system in multiple languages
● School transportation equity and Equitable School Buildings.

His dedication earned him the Minnesota School Boards Association Leadership Development Award and recognition as a St. Louis Park Human Rights Award finalist.

Service Beyond the School District

Abdihakim’s commitment to community extends well beyond the classroom. He has served on the St. Louis Park Police Advisory Commission, the 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, and community partnership initiatives focused on youth and families. His approach to public safety centers on trust, fairness, and collaboration.

Why He’s Running for County Commissioner

Now, Abdihakim is ready to bring that same practical leadership and lived experience to Hennepin County. He’s running for County Commissioner to serve a district that reflects both long-term residents and newer communities. His priorities include:
● Affordable and stable housing
● Community-centered public safety
● Economic opportunity for working families
● Strong schools and youth support
● Accessible and responsive county services
● Environmental stewardship and climate resilience
He believes the county can—and should—be a stronger partner to families, small businesses, and neighborhoods across St. Louis Park and Southwest Minneapolis.

A Leader Who Listens

Across every role he’s held, Abdihakim has worked to bring people together, solve problems, and expand opportunity. He offers a forward-looking vision shaped by community values and grounded in real experience.
He is running to ensure Hennepin County District 3 has a commissioner who understands its diversity, honors its history and is committed to building a future where every family has the chance to succeed.
